Position Overview
The research associate will perform molecular biology and cell biology techniques, including (but not limited to) DNA/RNA isolation, DNA/RNA QC, RT-qPCR, sequencing library preparation, cell culture, and in vitro drug screens. The ideal candidate will have industry experience and previous exposure to experimentation/analysis methods involving RNA. Other responsibilities include regular maintenance of equipment, tracking sample kit inventory, and participating in regular laboratory meetings.
Role and Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to):
- Design and conduct molecular & cellular biology experiments for compound screening or mechanism in cell lines or engineered mammalian cell lines.
- Perform basic cell biology techniques including mammalian cell cultures, transfection and drug treatments.
- Design and execute qPCR and RT-PCR for gene expression and splice variants, respectively.
- Perform basic molecular biology and biochemistry techniques including RNA/DNA extraction, and western blot analyses.
- Work closely with senior/principal scientist to design, develop and execute experiments.
- Help maintain equipment and assist in ordering laboratory supplies.
- Record experiments accurately in a timely manner and summarize/report data.
- Clearly and efficiently communicate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate activities with programs.
- Participate in project lab, team or company meetings, and scientific discussions.
- Ensure that all safety guidelines are strictly followed at all times and maintain a clean and orderly work environment.
- Summarize obtained data in an organized and presentable fashion.
Education/Skills/Experience Requirements:
- B.A., B.Sc., or M.S. with 2+ years laboratory experience
- Hands-on experience with RNA biology, including functional analyses of RNA binding protein/small molecule-RNA complexes, mammalian cell culture, and site-directed mutagenesis
- Proven experience in working independently as well as in a team environment
- Proficiency in MS Office package and GraphPad prism
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Flexible and efficient with a problem-solving attitude in a fast-paced small company environment
